Water Heater Repair in Northern Colorado

No hot water, not enough hot water, rumbling or popping noises, or water around the base of the tank.

Water heater repair

What usually goes wrong

Gas water heaters most often fail at the pilot, igniter, thermocouple or gas valve. Electric models usually lose a heating element or thermostat, or trip their breaker. Over the years, minerals and sediment settle at the bottom of any tank, which can cause rumbling noises and slower heating; a plumber can tell you whether flushing will help.

Before calling, check the obvious: is the gas valve on and the pilot lit (follow the instructions on the label), or has the breaker tripped on an electric unit? Water dripping from the relief valve pipe is a warning sign, not something to cap or plug. A tank leaking from the bottom usually means replacement, so ask for repair and replacement prices side by side.

If you smell gas near the water heater, leave the house and call 911 or your gas utility from outside before calling a plumber.
